A landscape photography blog by Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire based landscape photographer Rob Thorley Photography.

Inspired by my recent impromptu outing along the Caldon canal I decided I kill a few birds with one stone and headed off to Consall valley. I hadn’t been to Consall this autumn, and it whilst felt a little late in the day for autumn colour the beauty of Consall is the options it gives you. There’s the wildlife and woodland in the nature reserve. The Caldon canal, and Consall Valley Railway. The River Churnet also flows through the valley, so plenty to have a go at when it comes to photography.

I parked up and made my way to Consall station, which was the main image I was hoping to capture.

Consall station is actually a replica at what once was. The station closed in 1965 as part of the Beeching cuts and by the 1980’s the original wooden buildings had disappeared. It was until the early 2000’s that a replica was built on the original brick base by the North Staffordshire Railway Company and the Churnet Valley Railway.

Unfortunately, this was the only image I was to get today.

I’m not quite sure how, but I found myself with phone service at the bottom of the valley. Sadly my daughter was having a flat tyre emergency at work and was calling asking for me to sort it out. So my day ended before it really got started. Such is life . . . Kids!
