The Roaches Sunset

Given the events of 2020 I’m not sure why I was surprised to find that it had been almost twelve months to the day since I’d been on The Roaches in the Staffordshire Peak District, but surprised I was. Tonight was pretty much all about getting back into the swing of landscape photography, and there’s not many better places local to myself than The Roaches.
I arrived in plenty of time to get “up top”, and reacquaint myself with the area. It was a good job I was early as I quickly found out how out of shape I’d become. Not that I’ve ever truly been in shape!
Conditions weren’t great (where have you heard that one before), and if I’m honest I was struggling for inspiration, which feels criminal to say when you’re somewhere like The Roaches. It was fairly apparent from the skies that my “Plan A” for getting movement in the clouds was out of the window, and with nothing epic in the offing, and no “Plan B” I just wandered up to Doxey Pool, setup, fired off a few shots, and left.
One of those days where just being out in the fresh air was far better than my photography. More of a “snapshot” kind of night, although I do like how the light catches the heather in the shot of the ridge line.
