Some Things Never Change

A landscape photography blog by Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire based landscape photographer Rob Thorley Photography.

It’s been a while since I was last up around the trig point. August 2019 I was treated to some nice light but battered by the wind. Fast forward to March 2021 . . . that f@£#ing wind!

I decided to go Roach End in the Staffordshire Peak District figuring it should be quieter than over by Hen Cloud. It felt like it’d been weeks since there was a decent sunset, and a half chance of getting one tonight was enough to get me out of the house, even with a fresh breeze forecast.

I headed up past Bearstone Rock, and made my way up tot he trig point. For a short while I was caught in two minds whether to stay up top in the wind, or drop back down. In the end I went past the trig point and tucked in behind some of the bigger rocks to shelter from the wind, shooting back to wards the trig point.

The best of the light was well before sunset, and I was on the road home not much after 6pm. It was still very nice to get some colour as I was definitely getting fed up of “embracing the grey”.
