A landscape photography blog by Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire based landscape photographer Rob Thorley Photography.

Gib Torr is a quieter spot of “The Roaches” in the Staffordshire Peak District. It sits just behind them, but gets nowhere near the footfall of The Roaches themselves. On this particular evening I came out scouting for Buzzards, Kestrel’s, and Owl’s. I was really pleased to spot both Buzzards, and Kestrel’s. Whilst they were a little too far away to get any decent images that didn’t have a heavy crop, I was chuffed that my “tracking” skills were coming up trumps. That said I got distracted by the light, and the landscape.

Landscape photography is what I love most, and I’d made a conscious decision not to photograph any landscapes whilst I was practising wildlife photography. I wanted to focus, and not get distracted, but when the light was this good I couldn’t help myself.

Fortunately, or unfortunately photographing the Gib Torr, and Baldstones landscape reminded me of where my true passion lies when it comes to photography, and it isn’t wildlife photography. With each click of the shutter button I knew it was nail after nail in the wildlife photography coffin. I had a feeling my brief affair with it was coming to an end.

You can view more images from Gib Torr, and my gallery of other Peak District locations.
