A lone tree at The Roaches.

A landscape photography blog by Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire based landscape photographer Rob Thorley Photography.

I’d had this tree on my radar for a while, but it's been on my sunrise radar, and not my sunset one. On this particular evening I'd nipped up to The Roaches, in the Staffordshire Peak District. My plan was to take an image of a building I'd spotted that was decked in flowers, and would make a nice golden hour shot. Unfortunately when I got to my planned location there was a car parked in front of it, so had to scratch that one. On my way there however I'd passed this tree again, and had noticed that it was catching some nice light. I quickly turned the car around, and drove back in the hope that I wasn't too late.

For once it seems like the gods of sunset were on my side, and I was rewarded with some nice side light. I was very pleased with the image, and I think this will be a subject that I'll end up photographing at sunrise and sunset, and all four seasons.

You can view more images from The Roaches, and my gallery of other Peak District locations.
