Essex Bridge

A landscape photography blog by Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire based landscape photographer Rob Thorley Photography.

I saw an image of this location on one of the Facebook groups I belong to. What was a surprise is that it's pretty local, and I didn't know it existed. I thought the bridge would make for a nice image with some golden hour light on it, and maybe a reflection in the water. I did a bit of planning on PhotoPills, and estimated that if I got there, an hour, or so before sunset I had the potential to get the light I wanted.

Essex Bridge, Great Haywood.

Unfortunately this doesn't quite work in July. In this scene the sun is setting behind me, but the foliage of the trees was too thick, and blocking out most of the light. If you look at the right hand pillar of the bridge, you can just make out the light that I was hoping for, just lots more of it!

I will go back for another try. Maybe try a couple of hours before sunset, and hope that the light isn't too harsh.

You can view more images from my gallery of other Staffordshire locations.
