A landscape photography blog by Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire based landscape photographer Rob Thorley Photography.

If you’ve read the previous blog post about my visit to Swineholes Wood in Staffordshire, you’ll not be surprised to find that I was here again today. The added bonus of today was that it was Monday, and it wasn’t a work day!

After chalking down what I classed as a successful outing last time I was keen to explore further, and see what other images I could capture. Armed with my new “attitude” to this woodland, and buoyed by the fact that I had made some images previously I set off to explore.

As you’ll see from the gallery I was trying for “moody”, “eerie?” type shots, where I was looking for contrast more than anything, and was quite happy with the results. I’d also got half an eye on the future. It was still too early, but there were indications that autumn was on it’s way as the Silver Birch trees were already starting to lose their leaves.

For now I’m satisfied with Swineholes Wood. I know it a lot better than I did. There’s definitely going to be more visits, and opportunities. I’m looking forward to visiting when there’s misty conditions. There’s some really nice trees that would “pop” with mist isolating them, and of course I’ve not yet seen the wood in it’s autumn colours, so very much looking forward to photographing that. The added bonus of this location is that’s it’s local, and less than a twenty minute drive into the countryside.
