Two Minutes To Late ~ Part 2
A landscape photography blog by Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire based landscape photographer Rob Thorley Photography.
If you’ve read part one of today’s adventure you’ll know that a missed sunrise opportunity had turned into a cracking day. If you’ve not read it yet it’ll be worth having a look at before this one.
Armed with a fresh bag of goodies, and a spring in the step from capturing what was one of my favourite images to date I set off up the slope to Cwmorthin from the car park.
It wasn’t many yards before I was puffing like a fully loaded old steam train on a one in two incline. For those that know the location . . . Stop laughing. I just think it’s a longer walk than it looks.
A few minutes, and stops later I arrived at Cwmorthin terrace. I find it strange, and unnerving when you’re in amongst the banks of slate and hear the trickle of the shards as they slide down the slopes. I always look up expecting a full on landslide to be on it’s way! That said I do have an outlook on life that is more optimistic, than pessimistic . . . honest.
My plan for Cwmorthin was nothing more than to take some shots of the area from different spots that I hadn’t previously photographed it from. I was also going to have a look around Plas Cwmorthin which was the old quarry managers house before going up to Rhosydd.
The day itself had turned into a nice one. It was blue skies and cloud, so at times the light was a little harsh and had a bit more contrast than I’d have liked, but it was what it was. The added bonus of a sunny, and cloudy day meant that I was able to capture some nice time-lapse videos of the clouds and shadows moving across the sky, and mountain sides.
The day flew by. Having to adjust my plans due to the unexpected snow fall, and icy conditions first thing, combined with enjoying myself photographing Cwmorthin so much, meant that I ran out of time. Although I didn’t get up to Rhosydd this time I’d still had a very enjoyable day.
