Winter Flowers

It’s late February. The weather has been mild. Everywhere to me eye is looking drab, and it’s feeling like a case of the “winter blues”. Desperate to find some colour I headed out with my macro lens to a local park in search of snowdrops, and whatever winter flowers were in bloom.
I ended up at Fenton Park. I used to live within easy walking distance of the park, so knew where the snowdrops would be if they were out. Sure enough there was a nice carpet of snowdrops out. Composition wise I knew there wasn’t really anything that made for a wide shot, which was the reason I rolled up with just the macro lens.
This morning I’d also bought along my speedlight to try a bit of off camera flash. Something that I don’t do very often, tending to only use it when photographing fungi, and mushrooms in autumn.
I took a few images of the snowdrops, and couple of some daffodils which I was quite pleased with before moving down through the park to the flower beds to see what was on offer. It may be a sign of the times, cost cutting etc . . . but other than a few Crocus’ there wasn’t much to be had. I worked with what I had and again I was reasonably happy with those images.
After photographing the Crocus’ my attention switched to the debris of winter, and I took a few images of leaves that were in varying states of decay. They were well past “best”, but they turned out to be my favourite images of this morning outing.
