Three Shire Heads
A selection of images from Three Shire Heads in the Peak District National Park by Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire based landscape photographer Rob Thorley Photography.
Three Shire Heads, or Three Shires Head depending on your point of view is the convergence point for the counties of Cheshire, Derbyshire, and Staffordshire. It is a popular Peak District location with a number of pleasing cascades, and two packhorse bridges that span the River Dane, and one of it's minor tributaries.
In the 19th century it is said that persons of ill repute based themselves around the area, so as to avoid capture by the police, who only had the power to act within their own county.
