Magpie Mine

Tonight I made a first trip out to Magpie Mine in the Derbyshire Peak District. The weather forecast wasn’t going to provide an epic sunset, but with an industrial landscape I thought “moody” would work quite well.
The mine itself is very well preserved. There are plenty of structures for compositions. It’s very easy to access, and there’s plenty of parking close by. When I arrived I was pleased to see it was just myself, and a camper van, so there was not going to be a crowd to content with.
My thinking on the drive over was that it was going to be a mono session, and as I walked up the track that was still the plan. As you’ll see from the gallery below however, and for those that know my plans it was a session that didn’t turn out that way. I did do a few simple B&W conversions when editing, but actually preferred the colour images.
Unfortunately the visit turned into a quick one. I got in amongst the buildings but spotted a herd of cows that I hadn’t anticipated. Maybe I should have shown more minerals, but I’m not a fan of cows, and this herd were meandering down to my exit route.
I ended up concentrating more on the cows than the mine itself, so another one to get back to at some point as I think I could do a lot more at the location.
